Broadband Deployment
The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) is a member of the California Broadband Council, which promotes broadband deployment in unserved and underserved areas of the state as defined by the Public Utilities Commission, and broadband adoption throughout the state.
Broadband Policy Statement: CalSTA believes that high-quality broadband connections are critical to protecting all transportation users, completing daily life tasks, and providing equitable access to goods, services, and destinations for all California communities. CalSTA departments Caltrans and California High-Speed Rail Authority contribute to the deployment of fiber and fiber conduit through certain construction programs, as well as through encroachment permitting processes on their system rights-of-way. Therefore, CalSTA and its departments shall accommodate fiber and/or fiber conduit deployment in accordance with federal and state laws in all projects where appropriate and feasible.
